Satter Sweeps King Pin Klash

By Mike Spieker

ADA, MN (July 31) – ThursdayNight Thunder at Norman County Raceway had a little extra rumble to it as U Motors and The Bowler presented the 3rd Annual King Pin Klash Street Stock special. Austin Arneson, Tyler Peterson, and Ryan Satter all took the AMSOIL Dirt Track Series checkered flag.

A season-high number of WISSOTA Street Stocks took to the track for the King Pin Klash. Last year’s King Pin Klash champion, Jordan Duray, sat on the pole for the 22 lap, $600-to-win WISSOTA Street Stock feature, but outside pole sitter, Ryan Pommerer, beat Duray to the line to lead the opening lap. Pommerer, of Oriska, ND, paced the field for the next 10 laps where Ryan Satter overtook him for the top spot from the eighth starting position. Satter held off Pommerer for the final 11 laps and picked up his second career victory and his first ever at NCR. Rick Schulz came home third followed by Travis Robertson and Duray who rounded out the top five.

The Northwest Truck & Trailer WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds feature got off to a wild start as Rob VanMil came from fifth to lead the first lap. VanMil’s lead was short lived, though, as Tyler Peterson claimed the lead on lap two from his seventh place start. Once Peterson had a clean racetrack in front of him, he put his Petro Stopping Centers #1TPO on cruise control and won the 20 lap feature by a whopping four and one-half seconds over VanMil. Tyler Hall came from eighth to finish third, while Jordan Wahl came from 10th to fourth. Chris Christian was the only driver who started in the top five that finished in the top five. The win for Peterson was his sixth at NCR and broke a tie with former WISSOTA national champion, Brock Gronwold, for seventh on the all-time NCR Midwest Modified wins list and put him in a tie for sixth with Austin Arneson.

The current Minnesota Modified Nationals champion, Austin Arneson, made his 2014 NCR debut in his U Motors #10 WISSOTA Modified. The Fargo, ND driver came from the fifth position to take the lead from the resurgent Corky Thomas on lap two of the main event. Arneson looked like he had the win all wrapped up until the caution flew in the closing laps and put the very fast Alex Engelstad right on his rear spoiler. The race went green once again and Arneson got a good restart and pulled away from Engelstad a bit, but not long after, the caution was displayed once again. Just like the last restart, Arneson jumped on the throttle as the green flag flew. He held off Englestad and Dev Malmlov to take the feature win, while Justin Jones charged from 19th to finish fourth and Blake Jegtvig cruised from 22nd to round out the top five. Arneson’s win puts him in ninth on the NCR all-time wins list, just ahead of Chad Ohnstad.

Rich Pavlicek picked up his second IMCA SportMod feature win of 2014 to accompany his pair of Midwest Modified victories. Tailin Tommerdahl came home second and Robert Bladow rounded out the top three. Kelly Jacobson once again proved to be the man to beat in the Pure Stocks as he visited KRJB/KRJM Victory Lane for the fourth time this year.
