Norman County Fair Brings 3 Big Nights of Racing to NCR

By Mike Spieker

ADA, MN (June 23)- So far this season Norman County Raceway has only seen three complete nights of WISSOTA Amsoil Dirt Track Series racing, but if Mother Nature cooperates, that number should be doubled. Three nights of racing are scheduled this week during the Norman County Fair, including Wednesday and Thursday night’s B-Mod Blitz & NLRA Late Model Special along with the IMCA Saturday Night Shootout.

Last Friday’s winner at River Cities Speedway, Mike Balcaen, and last year’s winner at NCR, Brad Seng, will lead the big guns of the NLRA Late Model series to the high-banked 3/8th mile oval for the two night event. During one of the Late Model specials last season, Brad Seng stole the victory after Donny Schatz dominated the event until he made contact with a lapped car in the closing laps and was sent to the tail of the field. The five-time World of Outlaw STP Sprint Car Series champion is expected to return to NCR in an attempt to collect that elusive Late Model win. Both Wednesday and Thursday night’s races will be broadcasted live on KRJB 106.5 FM.

Just 20 points separate the top five drivers in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified (B-Mod) point standings heading into the $675-to-win B-Mod Blitz. Rob VanMil has one NCR win to his credit and sits atop the standings seven markers ahead of Rich Pavlicek who also has a victory this season. The young guns Tyler Peterson, Tyler Hall, and Gannon Miller round out the top five, but aren’t far behind the veteran drivers.

Saturday night will wrap up the racing action with the first-ever IMCA Saturday Night Shootout. This was originally scheduled to be the second appearance by the IMCA sanctioned cars at NCR, but wet, soggy conditions forced the cancellation of the first event on May 31. Many western North Dakota IMCA Modified drivers and local IMCA drivers are expected to be in attendance to put on a show for the race fans of NCR. The Norman County Raceway School Buses will also be back in action! KRJB 106.5 will once again carry a live broadcast of the races.
