Norman County Raceway Roars Back To Life

ADA, MN (May 9)- Thursday night’s Norman County Raceway Test ‘N’ Tune presented a sight that many have been looking forward to witnessing since the season concluded last August; the sight of race haulers pulling in the pit gate of the Norman County Fairgrounds, old friends reconnecting after a long offseason, but most importantly, seeing some racecars hit the track for the first time.
Forty-three cars were in the pits, ready for NCR’s annual preseason practice session; including two-time WISSOTA Mod Four National Champion Rob VanMil of Barnesville, MN. Also signed in was Cody Skytland of Fargo, ND in his new U-Motors Modified and five-time and defending World of Outlaws Sprint Car champion, Donny Schatz, driving his Schatz Motorsports WISSOTA Late Model.
“It’s been quite a few years since I’ve been up here,” said Schatz in between practice runs, “It’s got a lot of bank to it. It’s a neat little race track.”
Schatz said he will race about a dozen Late Model races around eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota when he’s not on the World of Outlaws tour. He plans to compete in the NLRA specials at NCR and the NOSA Sprint Car special on June 27th.
“It’s fun to try something a little different. We’ve been working awful hard on the Late Model and it’s fun to get out here and play around with it. I’m looking forward to getting up (to Ada) a little more and hopefully being able to win one of these things.”
