Borgen Collects 2nd Norman County Raceway Win of 2014
By Mike Spieker
ADA, MN (August 16) – After racing Thursday night under Wissota AmsOil Dirt Track Series regulations, Modified and Sport Mods drivers made the minor adjustments to make their racecar legal for Norman County Raceway’s first-ever IMCA Saturday Night Shootout. The cars may have been a little different, but the fans still got to see the same great racing that was presented by Subway, West Main Pizza, and KRJB 106.5FM.
The IMCA Modified feature took the green and a three wide battle for the lead immediately ensued. When they came around to complete the first lap, it was David Goulet who led hometown driver, Bryce Borgen. On the next circuit, Borgen shot to the inside of Goulet and made the pass for the lead right as the yellow flag was displayed. On the restart, Goulet, Tom Silver, Michael Johnson and Michael Greseth jockeyed four wide for the runner-up position. Greseth ended up getting punted off the banking in turn two, but managed to keep control of his Elite Chassis #17 and continue racing. As the laps wound down, Borgen opened up a full straightaway lead over Johnson. With three laps to go, Johnson made heavy contact with another lapped car which sent the lapped car spinning into the field and left Johnson with a flat right front tire. As a result, the caution was displayed which put Dev Malmlov and Matt Aukland right on the rear bumper of the Sander’s Metal Products #7. The green flag flew once again and so did Borgen as he opened up a comfortable lead right at the get go. That’s all Borgen needed as he completed the finals laps and picked up his second win at NCR of 2014. Malmlov finished in the second spot as Aukland, Silver and Bob Sagen rounded out the top five.

The IMCA Sport Mod feature got off to a rocky start as a six car pileup occurred before the field reached turn one. Four drivers were forced to retire from the event due to overwhelming damage. The race resumed once again and Robert Bladow jumped out to the early lead, but with eight to go Rich Pavlicek came knocking on the door. Pavlicek, who amassed heavy damage from the opening lap wreck, came from the back and passed Bladow for the lead with relative ease. Pavlicek checked out from there as he led the remaining circuits to claim his third IMCA victory and fifth win overall at NCR. Bladow held on for second, while Jesse Skalicky, Patrick Brejcha and Chris VanMil rounded out the top five.
The young INEX Legends driver from Hawley, MN continued his NCR dominance in the 15 lap feature. Petermann took the lead on lap nine and held off Jesse Skalicky to visit KRJB/KRJM Victory Lane for the third time at NCR. The only other driver with a win is Tim Brockhouse which came back in 2012.
After finishing second in the feature on Thursday night, Kelly Jacobson came back on Saturday and took the “W” in the Pure Stocks. Jacobson led all but one lap during the 15 lap feature and came across the line nearly seven seconds ahead over second place Kristen Nelson.
There are only two more nights of racing at NCR in 2014. Next week, Thursday Night Thunder will get cranked up a notch as the Wissota NLRA Late Models invade the high-banked 3/8th mile for the final time of the season. For more information, log onto ncraceway.com
