Doar & Peterson Find KRJB/KRJM Victory Lane at NCR
By Mike Spieker
ADA, MN (August 7) – Sixty-four race teams invaded Norman County Raceway Thursday night for the WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series special, presented by Dr. Joy’s Dental Clinic. Pat Doar, Tyler Peterson, Adam Burrows and Bryce Bjerken were victorious in AMSOIL Dirt Track Series action.
Jeremy Keller and Pat Doar led the 27 car field to the green for the 40 lap WISSOTA Late Model main event. After briefly going four wide for the lead, Doar prevailed and grabbed the opening lead over Keller and Jeff Wildung. It quickly became a two horse race for the lead as Wildung chased Doar through lapped traffic. On lap 13 Wildung found a window of opportunity and squeezed into the lead, but just as soon as it opened, his window closed and Doar reclaimed the point. A handful of circuits later, Wildung brought out the caution with a flat left front tire, ending his hopes of another NCR win. On the restart, Doar jumped back out to the lead over Zach Johnson. Doar had seven lapped cars battling for position right in front of him as he took the white flag, but he patiently drove around the three-eighth mile track one last time and the “Double One Express” took his second career NCR victory driving Casey Arneson #2 machine.
Zach Bruer and Jamie Winterquist led the Northwest Truck & Trailer WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds to the green for the 18 lap feature. On lap two, eighth place starter, Tyler Peterson, went three wide with Winterquist and Bryan Kakela into turn three and came away with the lead as they exited turn four. Peterson then set his Petro Stopping Centers #1TPO on cruise control and took his third NCR win of 2014 by 11-plus seconds over second place Winterquist. The win was also Peterson’s seventh career victory at NCR which breaks his tie with Austin Arneson on the all-time wins list and moves him into a three-way tie for third with Justin Jones and Shane Sabraski.
Bryce Bjerken parked his JDP Electric #6 in KRJB/KRJM Victory Lane for the third time this year in the WISSOTA Mod Fours. Bjerken led all but lap en rout to the win over Aaron Wetterlin, Rob VanMil, Kyle Thell, and Luke Johnson.
The WISSOTA Street Stocks are one of the most competitive classes night in and night out, but Adam Burrows led from green to checkers in the main event. Rick Schulz kept him honest, however, as he came up just a half second behind Burrows at the finish. Ryan Pommerer finished third, while Jim Geringer and Travis Robertson rounded out the top five.
Racing resumes next Thursday night with the $2,500-to-win Sander’s Modified Challenge along with WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mod Fours, and NCR Pure Stocks. For more information log on to ncraceway.com.
