Big, Exciting Changes Slated for NCR 2014 Season

The 2014 racing season will mark the 11th consecutive year of weekly races at Norman County Raceway; and it looks like it’s going to be one of the biggest. Last year Jake and Sharnel Bitker made many visual improvements to the raceway, including a brand new lap counter and scoreboard, but for this year the improvements were made to the racing that will happen out on the track.

For the first time the International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) sanctioned cars will compete at NCR. These new classes will include IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Northern SportMods, and IMCA Sport Compacts.

For those who are unfamiliar with IMCA racing, a Northern SportMod is basically a more affordable version of a WISSOTA Midwest Mod. There are many differences between the two racecars, but most noticeably is the Northern SportMod’s 6” rear spoiler. There will be seven events where the Midwest Mods and Northern SportMods run on the same night and even though the two classes can be very easily interchangeable, drivers will only be allowed to compete in one class.

The IMCA Sport Compacts are closely related to the NCR Trophy Cars, except they race for not only track points, but national points. Since the two classes are so similar, they will be racing on the track together. The Sport Compacts will pay an entry fee at the beginning of the night, run for the hardware, and get paid after the races while the Trophy Cars will continue to participate for free and race for the trophy.

In addition to the weekly Thursday night races will be four Saturday night IMCA specials on May 31, June 28, July 26, and August 16. Those dates will feature IMCA Modifieds, Northern SportMods, Sport Compacts (except for June 28), NCR Pure Stocks, and INEX Legends.

After their first year back on the NCR weekly race schedule, the WISSOTA Street Stocks will race 13 times in 2014; two more races than last year.
